Fremantle Ports is participating in the Greenhouse Challenge program of co-operative agreements between industry and the Commonwealth.

The Greenhouse Challenge will be helpful in developing Fremantle Ports' greenhouse gas reduction plans and reporting on our progress.

The co-operative agreement will be our blueprint for action. Our intention will be to have a greenhouse gas reduction program built into our business plan. As part of this, all our staff are being asked to help reduce energy usage.

The first step has been to prepare an initial inventory of our greenhouse gas emissions. Specific measures to minimise these emissions and a timeframe for implementing them are currently being developed.

Performance indicators will be developed as a means of tracking our progress, and our plan will include an emissions forecast, setting out our expected emission savings over a defined period.

As part of the agreement, we will agree to independent auditing of our results.
