The new Maritime Security Indentification Card becomes mandatory on 1 January 2007. For port users and customers who still have questions, Fremantle Ports has compiled the following 'What If' questions and answers.
(7 WEEKS TO GO from 13/11/06) “WHAT IF” I HAVE RECEIVED MY MSIC FROM FREMANTLE PORTS?
You will be able to apply to any port or offshore facility for access.
“WHAT IF” I HAVE RECEIVED MY MSIC AND ACCESS CARD FROM FREMANTLE PORTS?
You will be able to access all Fremantle Ports’ Maritime Security Zones and apply at any other port of offshore facility for access.
“WHAT IF” I DIDN’T GET MY MSIC FROM FREMANTLE PORTS?
You will need to apply to Fremantle Ports for Access to its Maritime Security Zones (i.e., Berths 1&2, 11& 12, Victoria Quay Berth C to Small Craft Pens, Kwinana Bulk Termina jetty or the Kwinana Bulk Jetty facility).
“WHAT IF” I HAVE A VALID MSIC AND FREMANTLE PORTS ACCESS AND WANT TO BRING SOMEONE ELSE INTO THE MARITIME SECURITY ZONE?
You will need to send a facsimile to 9430 3450 AND 9430 3442 requesting to escort persons. You will need to provide in this facsimile your full name, your MSIC number and your date of birth. You will also need to include information pertaining to the person/s you are escorting and must include their full name, DOB and address. You will be limited to a maximum of four persons per escort and persons cannot be escorted more than once in a calendar year. You will have certain responsibilities under federal legislation as an escort and a breach of these responsibilities will incur a penalty from the Department of Transport and Regional Services.
“WHAT IF” I WANT TO USE MY FREMANTLE PORTS MSIC AND ACCESS CARD AT ANOTHER FACILITY?
The MSIC is recognised across the country but is an identification card only. You must make application with the other facility for access in advance of your arrival.
“WHAT IF” I WANT TO APPLY FOR THE MSIC AND/OR ACCESS TO FREMANTLE PORTS OR I WANT MORE INFORMATION?

“WHAT IF” I HAVE ARRANGED FOR AN ESCORT AND HE/SHE DOESN’T ARRIVE?
You will not be permitted entry to a Maritime Security Zone and will need to wait until your escort arrives.
“WHAT IF” I HAVE APPLIED FOR THE MSIC AND ACCESS AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT?
You will not be permitted entry to the Maritime Security Zone and will need to make arrangements to be escorted during the period that you do not have a valid MSIC and Access card.
